30/11 FRIDAY, 17:00-18:00, A4
Two presentations by this year’s festival artists: Dutch visual artist Rosa Menkman and Canadian composer and musician Pierre-Luc Lecours will talk about their projects.
Dutch visual artist, researcher and curator Rosa Menkman is a lecturer at the Art Academy in Kassel. In her work, she creates virtual worlds, peeks under the cover of algorithms that compose our present world and scavenges for accidental results in analogue and digital visual media. An interest in glitch is what joins her with sonic innovator Bolka, a graduate of the Institute of Sonology in The Hague, with whom she now collaborates for the first time. One step ahead in the spirit of her manifesto Vernacular of File Formats. Their new work was commissioned by A4 together with Elevate festival, as part of the international collaborative project Re-Imagine Europe, co-financed by the EU’s Creative Europe Programme.
Canadian composer and multimedia artist Pierre-Luc Lecours is the author or co-creator of several innovative multimedia projects. At the festival, he will be joined by Alexis Langevin-Tétrault for the audiovisual performance DATANOISE. A laboratory spectacle explores the interaction between gesture, sound, light and space, escalating it into an extreme physical full sensory experience. By synthesis of lighting design, video and manipulation of DIY instruments, the duo reacts to the ubiquitous information smog and its immersive effect from which there is no hiding.
